APRIL 2004 -- EASTER SUNDAY

Matthew and MaKayla in front of our Easter Cross

APRIL 2003 -- EASTER SUNDAY -- Here are some pictures from our special Easter Service.

Becky Dorton stands beside our new cross that she donated in memory of her dad, Sonny Armistead.

Easter Sunday was a time for Holy Communion and Remembering...our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and His resurrection and those who have gone before us and have are now with the Saviour. This picture is of our altar before we unveiled the cross.

The Altar unveiled. When the veil was lifted, the cross revealed, very much like the veil that was rent when Jesus died. Our service centered on the theme that we, as Christians, are now seen through the veil of Jesus' blood and how wonderful a gift that was given so that we might have eternal life.

The congregation made their way to the altar to place a memory flower inside the cross.

The cross is full of flowers and memories and prayers for those we love who have fought the good fight and gone on...and for those we continue to lift up in prayer.

MARCH 2003 -- FELLOWSHIP NIGHT -- Our church started having Fellowship Night several months ago. Below are some pictures from the last few we've had. It begins each evening at 5:30pm and ends when everyone's full. Lots of fun, fellowship and food!

Herman worked hard preparing tenderloin on the grill (with fixins). Feast your eyes!

Okay. So he didn't work THAT hard preparing the food.

However, Herman and Ron did work hard at SAMPLING the food. Gotta make sure it turns out just right!

These lovely ladies enjoyed the fellowship.(Mary Glen, Gladys and Rusty)

...as did Frank and Rose.

OCTOBER 2002 -- HABITAT FOR HUMANITY FUNDRAISER

The church held a fundraiser with The Kings Messengers singing in the Norton Park. Free hotdogs, drinks and deserts were served and over $1,000.00 was raised to contribute toward the worthy cause!

It was a great day with great songs. The Kings Messengers did a fantastic job!

Carl and Julie snacking.

Solving the world's problems.

Do these guys know how to relax or what?!?

AUGUST 2002 -- A BUG SAFARI

VBS 2002

This is a picture of some of the kids who joined us for our Bug Safari Bible School in August, 2002. We had a wonderfully buggy time! Our VBS Director, Kathy Elkins did a terrific job of organizing us into successful safari crews and exploration stations. We're looking forward to next year! Below are a few more pictures of the week.

JULY 2002

On Sunday, July 7, 2002, Dr. Michael (Mike) Porter was formally installed as pastor of the Norton PC (USA) after having served 18 months as Stated Supply. Dr. Porter came to us from Ontario, Canada after marrying Nadine (Boggs) Porter from Coeburn. He was formerly ordained with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada.

As stated by Session member Mr. Bardin Thrower at the installation ceremony, "after 18 months of courtship, the marriage is finally here." Mike and his wife happily join the Norton family and look forward to many rewarding times in service to the Lord.

Members of the Abingdon Presbytery and area churches were present to form the Commission pictured below.

Many thanks go out to all who made this a very special day for the Norton church!
